Public assistance
Date of Release: April 16, 2008
Reference: Public warning
Over the last several weeks, the Portsmouth Police Department has received calls from city resident’s about two men going door to door in neighborhoods, attempting to solicit work and receive money in advance. Specifically, they claim to be landscapers. In one case, they asked for money from the homeowner for yard work that was never authorized and never done.
The latest sightings of these two men were on Hillside Drive and Colonial Drive. The men have previously been seen in the Elwyn Park area of the city as well. Although the homeowners could not provide a detailed description of the men, in each case their truck was described as:
A full size American made pick-up truck, color white, with Maine registration plates.
We urge homeowners to always receive positive identification and to confirm references before hiring workers. Additionally, we are asking for homeowners to be wary of individuals soliciting door to door, and to call the police department when in doubt.
Anyone with any information about these men, or if you see them in your neighborhood, please call the Portsmouth Police Department at 427-1500, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 431-1199 or 1-207-439-1199, or leave a tip click here.
