Public assistance

Date of Release: June 19, 2008

Reference: Identification of suspect in identity fraud

The Portsmouth Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the man in the attached photograph. This photograph is from a fake Massachusetts identification card. This identification card was used at the Bank of America on Islington Street in Portsmouth by the suspect pictured in an attempt to cash a stolen check on Monday, June 2, 2008.

The personal information on the identification matches that of a recently deceased man from Waltham, Massachusetts, with the exception of an altered date-of-birth. It is believed this information was obtained when the deceased man was brought to a hospital in the Boston area after a motor vehicle accident.

The suspect was further described as being in his late 20’s or early 30’s with a goatee and reddish orange hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and plaid shirt and was approximately 5’7” tall. He had sores on his face and neck.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portsmouth Police Detective Christopher Roth at (603)610-7419 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (603)431-1199 or leave a tip click here.
