Reference: August 14th, 2006 - BB gun incidents

The Portsmouth Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in solving numerous cases of criminal mischief and reckless conduct involving BB guns and/or air guns throughout the city. Over the past two weeks, citizens have reported their car windows being shot out, some while they were driving. In one case, a victim was riding his bicycle on Woodbury Avenue when he was shot with what is believed to be a BB gun or an air gun. The victim had non life threatening injuries, and reported that the shot came from a moving vehicle.

We urge victims of these crimes to report them to the police immediately, so that evidence can be properly documented, photographed and processed, and any suspect information can be disseminated as soon as possible.

Those individuals who are arrested for these crimes may face felony charges. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Bureau of Investigative Services at 436-2511, or they can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 431-1199 or 1-207-439-1199. Any information received that leads to an arrest may result in a monetary reward.
